Intuitive Birth

Chelsea Jordan, BSN

I’m a Boise native, a Labor and Delivery nurse, a mother, an aspiring pie-chef-extraordinaire, and believer in the power of birth. I was born at St Luke’s, just like both of my parents and my children and received my nursing degree from Idaho State University. I started in Labor and Delivery a few months after my graduation and have full confidence that it is the perfect “job” for me and that the work is a life calling. I believe in families, in parents, in women, in our ability to change the world, and in the fact that birth does matter; that the way we support and honor birth and mamas and babies matters! When not crusading to change the world through childbirth and motherhood, I enjoy adventuring with my kids and my handsome husband, being involved in my women’s group at church, reading classic children’s literature, learning pastry, spending time with my sisters, parents and in-laws, and basking in the bedtime quiet after the kids are asleep.

8 years into a multifaceted career in mind-body health as a massage therapist, bodyworker, reiki master and yoga instructor I found myself on the threshold of what would become the most important aspect of my life and career; motherhood.  Through the process of preparing for my own birth,  I became enamored with the the power of women, sisterhood support and the birth process.  After my first son was born I trained as a birth doula through DONA and then continued my education for prenatal massage  where I used this training at Treasure Valley Midwives to provide prenatal massage for their clients.  Currently I split my time between my private yoga, massage and bodywork practice and St. Luke's where I provide various wellness services for both employees and patients.  It is a dream come true to teach an empowered childbirth class for expectant parents where we de mystify physiologic birth, embrace mindful awareness, and where each woman and family is supported.

Childbirth has been my love for almost 25 years. I became a Lamaze Educator after I experienced the birth of my 2 wonderful children. This was a field I loved and I wanted to teach classes to empower the pregnant moms and their support people.I became a certified Doula in 2006 and have helped many families work through the process of preparing for birth, giving birth and establishing their new roles as parents. It always had been an honor for me to be there for the new family and help them to accomplish a wonderful birth experience. Helping women get back to the basics (intuition, little or no intervention, and family time with the baby) is a priority for me. In addition to my work as a Health Educator and as a teacher of Intuitive Birth, I also teach several other childbirth prep and parenting classes including Birthing Nature’s Way, Marvelous Multiples, Happiest Baby on the Block, Breastfeeding Classes and Family CPR.

I have known since the age of 5 that I wanted to become a nurse.  But it wasn’t until near the end of nursing school that I discovered Labor and Delivery was my calling. This was when I was blessed with my first beautiful daughter and an amazing birth story.  The confidence and excitement that experience gave me made me want to share what I had learned with others, and help them achieve similar experiences.  Increasing knowledge, trusting your own body’s natural capabilities, and recruiting a loving and committed support system are critical steps in the preparation process.   This is what Intuitive Birth teaches.  I truly love helping birth mothers and their partners prepare for their own unique story to share.  I am so very grateful that 3 additional children and 20 years later I still get to do what I love: Labor and Delivery Nurse by day, Childbirth Instructor by night.

I grew up a Canadian girl with a passion from the age of 3 to become a nurse. Straight out of high school I jumped into nursing school and during my Labor & Delivery preceptorship.  I knew I had found my passion for helping women and their families with pregnancy, childbirth and motherhood. After nursing school I moved to southern Texas where I began my dream working in Labor & Delivery and teaching childbirth classes. It was during this time I met my husband Dan (a native Idahoan) and after 5 years in Texas moved to Idaho and got married.  I started working in Labor & Delivery and postpartum in Twin Falls and completed my Childbirth Educator certification through PCE and my Inpatient Obstetrics certification prior to the birth of our first son. I went back to work part-time in Labor and Delivery and continued teaching childbirth until the birth of my second son. It was during my maternity leave that the opportunity became available for me to pursue my passion for teaching more when the Childbirth Education Coordinator role became available. I was then able to become certified as a Happiest Baby instructor and start the class for our community.  After the birth of my third son I completed my Lactation counselor certification to help support lactation on the floor and in our classes. With 25 years  experience in OB/Maternal child and a continued passion for helping to empower women and their families  I am excited to become an Intuitive Birth Instructor to be able to offer these classes in our community.
